Applied Data Analytics for OSINT

Learn & master programming & non-programming techniques to collect, analyze & interpret open-source data.

Course Overview

During this 8-week virtual course, students will gain hands-on experience in scoping, collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing open-source data while following the CRAWL™ method, developed by Cynthia Hetherington. Throughout this course, students will complete a comprehensive open-source data analysis project, from collection to analysis, and develop the skills to communicate findings effectively.

The course focuses on foundational data analytics. Learners will apply their skills to analyze datasets reflective of cybersecurity and OSINT scenarios. The 'SignalJack' case study provides an opportunity to practice data cleaning, visualization, and interpretation in a structured environment that reinforces the applications of data analytics. Students should have a foundational knowledge of open-source intelligence prior to taking this course.

Students will receive lectures, reading materials and assignments each week. This course uses Modern Data Analytics in Excel as the foundation for the materials presented. The course will conclude with a final capstone project that builds on the 8 weeks of lessons and projects.
